Antique Hour Glass Shaped Absinthe Decanter
Posted on November 21st, 2011 by absinthejack
This really cool antique absinthe decanter has a unique hour glass design. It’s been filled with green water so you can see the details better. The design is deceptive – the clear spaces between the outer tubes and the inner tube are solid glass, so it’s not as delicate as it appears. This heavy piece is a big 14 1/2 inches tall and holds an impressive liter and a half of absinthe.

It would depend on the size of it. I’ve seen them anywhere from about 8″ tall up to 15″. This is one of the 15″ ones and it cost me about $90. How tall is yours? Jack

You should be able to get somewhere around $90 for it from someone who’s interested in absinthe. If you sell it, let us know how it goes

Hi Absinthjack.
I have two bottles exactly like this only they are 6 inches in height, clear glass. Can you tell me anything about them? I would appreciate it. Up until now I thought they were maybe perfume bottles.
Many thanks!

Hi Carol! I know that they did come in diffferent sizes and I have only seen one of the 6″ ones before so I think they are pretty rare. They were produced in Europe in the late 1800’s to the very early 1900’s. As to what the small ones were used for, I really don’t know, butr if I find out any info on them I will let you know

Interesting in buying these – would prefer the larger size but send size, condition, and price to me at georgeegreen@yahoo.com and I’ll consider.
Thanks,
george

Hi there George. Thanks for your interest but the one pictured here isn’t for sale. However if you do a search for “hourglass bottle” on ebay you should be able to find these in various sizes. That’s where I got this one from. Good luck!
