Almost all of the absinthe fountains, both new and antique, that I’ve seen are topped with an acorn. Nobody that I’ve talked to knows why. Does anybody out there have the answer?

I would guess it has something to do with the acorn used as a heraldic symbol in one of the cantons (states in Switzerland). Just a guess, anyone knows it better..?
