Le Tourment Vert Absinthe

Since the legalization of absinthe last year we’ve had some very good brands become available in the US. Sadly, this isn’t one of them. It has the aroma of dirty socks, the color of Scope mouthwash, no louche, and very little taste. I bought a bottle of this and it sits on my shelf unused except for the 1 drink I tried and a few drinks I’ve let others try. Does it have an absinthe buzz? I don’t know as I won’t drink the stuff. None of my friends wanted more than 1 drink either. The only good thing about this is the packaging and bottle. The bottle is really neat, but not neat enough to justify buying it. Unfortunately the makers of Le Tourment Vert spent all their efforts on the bottle and none on the contents.

Hi Jack – I commented on your Ted Breaux party yesterday and am looking forward to the photos of the event.

I had a suggestion for your Tourment which you have left over. I was out the other day, and normally one to drink absinthe traditionally or on ice (strange for some I know) but they were mixing cocktails with it. I wasn’t drinking the cocktails, the girls I was with were and one of them was made with le tourment vert and chambord, I think Jaeger was in there too. So quite a herbal tasting fruity mix. I had a taste and was impressed (very unexpectedly so). It was just a thought, especially if you are having a few friends over and they don’t drink absinthe. I have to agree with you about the bottle, it does stand out. I will reserve my judgment on le tourment vert until I have had a chance to drink it either traditionally or on ice, but I am intrigued now. So perhaps the tourment is a great mixer absinthe? Just trying to help a fellow absinthe drinker out.

Hi there Thor! Thanks for the advice. When I get the chance I will try using Le Tourment Vert as a mixer. It certainly couldn’t hurt the taste and I just might get a chance to use mine up. Also, consider this – how much better would their cocktails have tasted if they had used a top quality absinthe like Epoque or Clandestine? When you get the chance to try it in the traditional way please let me know what you think.

I will definitely let you know my thoughts when I have a chance to try it.

well I guess you guys are rich snobs with nothing better to do then bash alcohol well I think it’s a good drink and me and all my friends will buy it again and again and again! obviously it’s not bad to some otherwise they wouldn”t sell any

Hey, if you like the stuff more power to you. I am neither rich nor a snob. They sell it at local Bevmo stores and it is more expensive than Kubler (which is a very good one) and some other brands they carry. Bevmo routinely sells out of most brands of absinthe, but their shelves are overflowing with Le Tourment Vert. If you check out some absinthe review sites you’ll see that most people agree with me. But it’s a matter of personal taste, if you like it, then drink it. I would like to ask though, what other brands of absinthe have you tried?
