The  first annual Spirits International Prestige Awards was held November 14, 2009 in Los Angeles, Ca. A panel of 100 non-industry people voted on distilled spirits from around the world and gave out bronze, silver, gold and platinum awards. The platinum awards were announced this week. La Valote Absinthe, a very fine Swiss entry, won a well deserved platinum award. These excellent absinthes are available from our sister site www.Alandia.de . Pick yourself up a bottle and see why the judges were so impressed.

Holiday Absinthe Drink

Here’s a great recipe that’s perfect for the holidays. First, heat up some red wine (Merlot works well) in which you’ve placed a cinnamon stick or two and a few whole cloves. After heating,  let the cinnamon and cloves steep for a while to draw out the essential oils. Then remove the cinnamon and cloves. Add some Suisse LaBleue Clandestine and a little bit of sugar. This one tastes great, will warm you up, and give you a nice buzz. Enjoy!

Ted Breaux, producer of the Jade Absinthe line, is back in New Orleans this month where he’ll be hosting an absinthe taste testing event at the Absinthe Museum of America on Friday, December 18. It is from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at 823 Royal St.  He’ll also be giving a lecture on the history and myths of absinthe at Pravda, located at 1113 Decatur St., on Saturday, December 19 at 2:30 p.m. Both events are free to the public, but you need reservations for the lecture. Reservations can be had by emailing kate@lamaisondabsinthe.com or by calling 504-523-0903. I wish I lived closer as this  would be lots of fun!  :)

Scheduled to begin filming next year “The Absinthe Drinkers” stars Keith Carradine, John Hurt, and  Tim Roth. “The Absinthe Drinkers” tells the story of a talented young woman (curiously named Artemesia) painter’s desperate struggle to succeed in the male-dominated art world of 19th century Paris and Florence – and the dire consequences of her descent into their world of debauchery.

Although not specifically about absinthe drinking, I’m sure it will have some great absinthe scenes.

I’ve seen some really cool T shirts on ebay for Anubis Absinthe, but I can’t find any info about it. Does anyone know – is this just a T shirt, or does it really exist?
