Fountain is made out of glass or metal. Sometimes both materials are used.
In the early 20th century at the times of the Belle Epoque Fountains or in French
Fontaines were part of the bistro bar equipment. They were placed at center
spots in the bistro, for example the bar, and you could getyour ice cold water
directly from the tap. With slow ice cold drips the water poured onto the Absinthe
spoon, which was loaded with sugar cubes, then into the Absinthe and the perfect
louche was created. That sounds like history, but fountains are now available
as reproductions and you enjoy this piece of history the original way.
The louche is the opalescent effect when the cold water mixes with the Green
Fairy. The oils separate from the alcohol which creates the magic effect.
A Fountain can cost 50$ or more. It depends on the quality and size. A starter is a smaller glass fountain. This is recommendable, as it is easy to clean and store. You can use it easily for your Absinthe ritual. When you have enough room you can also get a metal one, like the Lady Fountain, which is higher in size. It depends on your personal chocie.
